Chuck Norris, the founder of Chun Kuk Do, was a Tang Soo Do & Tae Kwon Do trained Martial Artist before developing his own style in the late 1980's. So respected is Mr. Norris in the Martial Arts world that he was awarded the title of Grand Master 8th Degree in Tae Kwon Do (a feat that few other westerners in history have ever accomplished.) He belongs to that elite group of Martial Artists whose name alone lends credibility to any form he practices.

Chun Kuk Do came into being in the same way that most new styles are birthed, from a desire to build a more complete Martial Arts system. Mr. Norris took his base in Tang Soo Do and added elements of several other styles, including Jujitsu. The result? An art that applies to the spectrum of self-defense situations but does not exclude any other form of Martial Arts training. But Chun Kuk Do is more than just a fighting style. It is a way of life.

Its founder set out 12 points by which he lives his life. These have become the Code of Ethics adhered to in all Chun Kuk Do schools. They begin with I Will:

  • Develop myself to the maximum of my potential in all ways
  • Forget the mistakes of the past and press on to greater achievements
  • Always be in a positive frame of mind and convey this feeling to every person that I meet
  • Continually work at developing love, happiness and loyalty in my family and acknowledge that no other success can compensate for failure in the home
  • Look for the good in all people and make them feel worthwhile
  • Say nothing if I have nothing good to say about a person
  • Give so much time to the improvement of myself that I will have no time to criticize others
  • Always be as enthusiastic about the success of others as a I am about my own
  • Maintain an attitude of open-mindedness toward another person's viewpoint, while still holding fast to that which I know to be true and honest
  • Maintain respect for those in authority and demonstrate this respect at all times
  • Always remain loyal to God, my country, my family, and my friends
  • Remain highly goal-oriented throughout my life, because that positive attitude helps my family, my country, and myself

UFAF(United Fighting Arts Federation) is an organization of Chun Kuk Do black belts, which serves to meet the needs of its members; providing leadership and a network of people who are linked by their love of a common art. Any under belts wishing to advance to the rank of black belt in this style must first, however, be a member of the Chun Kuk Do student organization for at least 3 years.

Chun Kuk Do is a "hard" art in addition to a spiritual one. It incorporates many striking techniques - punches and kicks - as well as grappling moves. The end result? A well-rounded and practical fighting art.
